The first ICED conference was held in Vasa, Finland in 1996, with 75 participants representing 10 nations. This reflects a long tradition in doing design research, educating students and collaborating with professional design engineers. We must learn to replace short term thinking by an integrated view on people’s quality of life on a long-term scale.Delft University of Technology is celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2017. Before joining the IC project in 2014, she gained experience as an educational advisor and trainer at the Faculty of Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Economics and Business. The ICED conference series started in 1981 organized by the Workshop Design Konstruktion (WDK) group and continued by the Design Society since its founding in 2000 as a successor to WDK. We don’t presently know the answers to these questions, but we know worldwide growth will have an impact on the future of our children. The ICED19 Conference will take place at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.
